Utility Maintenance

Public Works maintains all Township water, sewer and storm water utilities. The Township currently operates six wells, one water treatment facility, and three water towers, and has approximately 63.5 miles of water mains. The Township wells pump approximately 400 million gallons of water each year. The Township’s sewer system consist of approximately 61.5 miles of sewer lines and ten pumping stations (lift stations). Sewer treatment is provided by the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services. The Township has approximately 14 miles of stormwater mains and culverts.

Hydrant Flushing

To ensure fresh water and to remove rust build-up in Township water lines, the Public Works Department flushes water from hydrants in the spring and fall. Announcements of flushing appear in the local newspaper and on the Township website. During flushing, a slight discoloration in the water or a drop in pressure may be noticed. Discoloration can usually be cured by turning on your cold water faucet for several minutes. If discoloration persists, contact the Township at 651-747-2750.
